Semblance: N/A Weapon: Curse Bearer Avaria’s weapon is a very large and heavy twin-bladed battle axe. It features heating elements along both blades that heat them to over one thousand degrees Fahrenheit. It also has a very powerful long-range energy cannon in the shaft between the blades, though it requires a recharge after just a few shots due to the large amount of energy required, and it links directly to Avaria’s reactor when she is hibernating. She wields it with broad swings, preferring a brutally effective fighting style that utilizes the mechanical advantage of the weapon. She lets the momentum carry the axe, and the weapon is so heavy that gravity alone is usually enough to kill Grimm. The blade is very wide, and she blocks projectiles with it when necessary, even bashing with it if the situation demands it. Additional weapons and armor: Being an android, Avaria is quite able to fight unarmed and is very strong and resilient, and has been known to use her own body as a weapon on occasion. Appearance: Avaria is designed for functionality over fitting in. It was a last-minute decision to give her feminine features and hair instead of leaving her a blank shell. Her eyes are dark yellow, and her facial features are angular and narrow. Her long, slender limbs are painted a factory default white with gunmetal trim, except her forearms, which she painted red herself. Her hair is a very light blue, and is long only because her creator made it that way. She typically wears a skirt and short-sleeved shirt in an attempt to fit in, even though she really has nothing to hide. Even though she has existed for twenty three years, her face will eternally look as though she is only eighteen. Personality:Umbra Unit 009a didn’t start with a personality at first. She was created to destroy Grimm and infiltrate their burrows to destroy the breeding populations in order to stop them from returning. Her designer and creator secretly gave her emotional drivers twenty years into her existence, and they were overwhelmed by analyzing every experience her memory had logged in her twenty years, and it caused her to essentially go insane. After she had recovered from this, she was deeply emotionally scarred, and was forced to rationalize her many years of combat by being happy about it. Because of this, she always seems unnaturally happy during combat, in a way that is eerie and unsettling. She refuses to accept that she was purpose-built to kill, which is the reason she decides to do it because it makes her happy, even though it has yet to fill the void she feels within herself. Above all, she desires to fit-in somewhere, to be accepted, and to be loved. The fact that she does not know if any of this will happen confuses and infuriates her, because her rational android mind wants to be in control of things instead of leaving them up in the air. In a word, Avaria’s personality can be summed up as troubled. History:Designed only to kill and destroy Grimm, Umbra Unit 009a was a perfect weapon designed and created by Doctor Jack Slate, a genius in terms of robotics and android sciences. Umbra Unit 009a was obedient and efficient, and never failed any mission she was given. This was something that Doctor Slate’s professional colleagues were enamored with, and he gained much prestige and fame in the field of android studies. However, a tragic accident that took the life of his daughter caused the doctor to spiral into a depression from which there seemed no escape. When he looked at Umbra Unit 009a, an android whose face he had designed from a picture of his own daughter before her accident, he could only see her. He began referring to her as Avaria, which was his daughter’s name. It drove him to the point of madness that she could not feel the emotions he was feeling, and the grief-wracked scientist installed emotion drivers in the android’s mental processor. When the emotion drivers analyzed every memory she had retained in disturbing detail due to her digital memory banks, the brand new personality couldn’t handle the thought that she was purpose-built for one task, and her logic processor fractured. She went berserk, killing everybody in the lab, except Doctor Slate. She left without saying a word to him, taking refuge in the mountains and only leaving them when she absolutely needed to acquire supplied to maintain her mechanical body. After two years of grappling with her own sense of self, she discovered her semblance, and finally returned to civilization. She joined a group who called themselves the White Fang, hoping to find her purpose in their struggle for rights. When she became introduced to the more unsavory aspects of the organization, she was initially put-off, but decided that radicalism was the natural escalation when peaceful protest wasn’t getting them anywhere. Despite this decision, she still does not prefer the terrorist acts of the modern White Fang, but participates because she feels they are necessary. Her terms with the White Fang are fragile at best.
